<text>In her autobiography, <em>Higher Than the Sky</em>, Frances Cranmer Greenman describes painting “a full-length, about nine feet high, of the painter Dewey Albinson with his blond head like a sunflower nodding on the long stalk of his long green pants.” At 24 years old, Dewey Albinson was already a well-known Minneapolis painter, having exhibited at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Pennsylvania Academy, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Later, from 1926 to 1929, he was director of the Saint Paul School of Art, as the Minnesota Museum of American Art was known. Born in South Dakota, Greenman was a formidable artist in her own right, studying with American impressionist artists such as William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri, and establishing her own portrait studio in Minneapolis in 1921. Portraits of Hollywood stars and Washington politicians ultimately established her national reputation as a successful society painter.</text>
