<text>Kate Anderson pays homage to Henri Matisse with her knotted teapot by featuring two decorative designs based on Matisse's paper cutouts. One side of the teapot depicts a white figure centered within a diagonal strip of black. Yellow star-like shapes surround this abstracted figure and are set against a blue background. On the adjacent side, Anderson knotted a red cross in the center with square patches of dark blue in each corner. Horizontal strips of light blue run along the top and bottom of the teapot. The corners each contain a lightly colored floral shape. The handle is solid, with the outward facing side shaped into three curved bumps. The adjoining lid has a long and skinny rectangular shape.</text>

<text>Kate Anderson's Matisse Teapot uses the repetitive basketry technique of "knotting" to create a teapot, not practical for serving tea, but for the pure of fun of seeing the work of the great French artist Henri Matisse in an unexpected place. St. Louis artist Anderson utilizes iconic images by artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Georgia O'Keefe to create an object that blurs the boundaries between "high art" and craft. Here, she depicts the central image of Henri Matisse's 1947 artist's book Jazz.</text>
