Notes
Frank Big Bear spent his early childhood at White Earth, a reservation in northern Minnesota, and moved to Minneapolis in 1968, where he has lived since. He is largely a self-taught artist but for a brief period of study with another Native American artist, George Morrison. His intricate and labor-intensive Prismacolor pencil drawings draw on his personal experience as a Native, as well as artistic influences ranging from Morrison and Picasso to postmodernism.
