Description

In this drawing, Patrick DesJarlait depicts a Native American man and woman drying corn. The two figures are placed in the center of the drawing, with the man standing over the kneeling woman. The woman's gaze is cast downwards, towards the string of bare corncobs she holds in her hands. Her black hair is parted down the middle and she wears a yellow shirt and brown pants. The man, who is dressed in a white shirt and blue pants, leans his head to the right while holding a basket filled with corn cobs with his left arm. Directly behind the two, three strings of corncobs are tied to a branch of wood that is placed atop two vertical wooden polls. In the distance, a traditional birchbark house sits near the right edge of the drawing, while a lake, fern trees, and clear blue sky fill the background.
